FIVE REASONS TO STUDY ABROAD AND HOW TO FIND ACCOMMODATION

Studying abroad has many benefits, from personal development, to improving your job prospects. But, it can also be a huge leap to take, especially if you’ve not travelled much before.

If you’re still deciding whether studying overseas could be for you, here are five reasons why we think it could be life changing.

1.Learn about new cultures

With TikTok and Google at our fingertips, you might think it’s easy to learn about new cultures. Don’t get us wrong – the internet is an incredible resource.

But, it’s only by living and studying in a new country that you get to really experience their culture in an authentic way. By fully immersing yourself, you’ll get to try new foods, new customs, and meet new people from an array of different backgrounds.

2.Boost your career opportunities

In a globalised, digital world, employers are increasingly on the lookout for candidates who can demonstrate an understanding of the world we live in.

As the world becomes more interconnected, being able to show a company that you’re globally aware will be a real competitive advantage when it comes to applying for jobs after you’ve graduated.

3. Gain confidence and independence

There’s no doubt that studying abroad will present many unique challenges. It won’t be easy, and it may even feel scary at times.

In our recent study, a quarter (26%) of students said they felt nervous when it came to moving away from home for the first time. But in the same study, 44% were most excited about the independence it gave them.

From everyday tasks like booking a doctor’s appointment, to overcoming language barriers with your lecturers, there will be moments that feel difficult. But, stepping out of your comfort zone and tackling these challenges head-on will do wonders for your confidence.

4. Make lifelong friends

When you study in a new country, there are so many opportunities to meet new and likeminded people.

Whether it’s the other international students on your course, or the local residents, you’re guaranteed to make friendships that will last a lifetime. In fact, over half (54%) of former university students revealed they met at least one of their best friends in student accommodation.

5. Opportunities to travel

Studying abroad gives you more opportunity to travel. Why? Well, not only do you have your new country to explore, but you’ll also have all the neighbouring countries on your doorstep too.

Plus, by making friends from all over the world, you’ll have free places to stay if you choose to go travelling after uni. Bonus!
