Parents and Guardians at Aleu

Choosing where your son or daughter will live is a decision you're making together. From your first visit to move-in day, we're here to walk you through it — in person, on the phone, or online.

A new city, a new home, a new routine.

It's a big step, and we know you want to see it for yourself before your child moves in.

That's exactly how we'd want it too. This page covers everything you're likely to ask at each stage: visiting our residences in Barcelona, understanding the contract and guarantor process, moving in, meeting the team and ongoing support once term starts.

How it works

1. Visiting together

Most families who book with us visit in person first, and we'd encourage it — seeing the room, meeting the on-site team, and checking the building for yourselves is the best way to feel confident in the decision.

What to expect from a viewing:

  • Viewings typically take between 10 and 60 minutes, at your pace — there's no set script, so ask as many questions as you like.
  • You're welcome to bring your child, come alone to scout ahead, or visit as a family.
  • Can't get there in person? We also offer live virtual viewings, so you can walk the building and ask questions in real time without travelling.
  • The on-site team can show you room types, communal spaces, security features (access control, CCTV, reception hours), and answer questions about the local area — proximity to campus, transport links, and what's nearby.

2. Understanding the process

Booking a room involves a few steps. Here's what to expect.

The guarantor (aval) Most contracts require a guarantor — someone who agrees to cover the rent if your child is unable to. This is usually a parent or close relative. Depending on the residence, we can accept:

Deposits, explained There are two separate payments, and the distinction trips people up, so we spell it out clearly:

  • Reservation deposit — paid to secure the room while the contract is finalised. This is refundable up to the date set out in your booking confirmation.
  • Security deposit (fianza) — protects against damage beyond normal wear and tear, and is returned in full after check-out if the room is left in good condition.

Documents you'll need

  • Valid ID (DNI or NIE) for the student, and for the guarantor
  • Proof of income or guarantee documentation, if applicable
  • Signed contract

3. Safety and support

We know that peace of mind matters as much as the room itself. Every Yugo residence in Spain has:

  • Secure, monitored access — only residents and authorised visitors can enter
  • An on-site team during staffed hours, with 24/7 support available where offered at that residence
  • Maintenance issues resolved within 24 hours of being reported, unless a part or specialist is needed
  • A named residence manager you and your child can contact directly

If you ever need to reach the team while your child is settling in,  our residence contact details will get you straight through to the people who know the building.

4. Settling in

Before move-in day:

  • We provide all bed linen and towels — no need to bring your own. Your child will need to bring their own crockery, cutlery, and glassware.
  • Bring a printed copy of the tenancy agreement and ID for check-in.
  • Some residences allow early move-in at a daily rate — check with the residence team if this applies.

The first few weeks:

  • We run welcome activities at the start of the course to help students meet each other, and our teams keep an eye out for anyone who needs a little extra support settling into a group.
  • If your child would like to live with friends, this can be arranged by selecting the same flat or a double room when booking, subject to availability — worth booking early.
  • Single-gender flats or rooms can be requested at the time of booking, subject to demand.

5. Staying connected

Once your child has moved in, day-to-day contact naturally shifts to them — but we're always here if you need us. The residence team can help with:

  • General queries about the building, contract, or billing
  • Maintenance requests
  • Any concerns about your child's wellbeing or settling-in experience
