The Ultimate Area Guide for Living at Therese House

When it comes to making the most of what London has to offer, Zone 1’s Therese House in Islington is the perfect base. As well as being close to London College of Fashion and the London Metropolitan University, it’s a stone’s throw from the Barbican tube stop on the Circle Line, meaning you’re in a perfect place to reach the University of London, as well as to explore the length and breadth of this fun-packed city. 

Rich in Culture

But you don’t need to go far to experience the very best of London. This area is home to the acclaimed Barbican Arts Centre, an enormous cultural hub where you can discover the capital’s most fascinating film, theatre, classical music and art events - all within walking distance of your new home. The Barbican is known for taking particular care of its student visitors, so you’ll find a host of concessionary options and free art exhibitions, plus it’s a great place to hang out, with a huge range of cafes and restaurants where you can catch up with friends, network and meet new people. 

Just south of the Barbican you’ll find the world-renowned Museum of London, which covers all aspects of London’s rich history with over six million artefacts and plenty of state-of-the-art interactive displays. As well as showcasing many centuries of history, the museum also covers more modern phenomena, such as the recent exhibition about the history of dub reggae music. 

Historic Buildings & Markets

A little further on you’ll find Sir Christopher Wren’s masterpiece, Saint Paul’s Cathedral, a jaw-dropping structure that is well worth repeated visits. At this point, it’s just a short walk to the River Thames, where you can jump on a river boat to explore the city in style.

The nearby Smithfield Market is a historic covered market in one of London’s most beautiful buildings, where the hungry shopper can find artisanal meats, cheese and all manner of mouthwatering delicacies awaiting them. You’ll find a vibrant atmosphere here, showcasing the very best of London’s varied culture - it’s a much better way to experience London than pushing a trolley round a supermarket. But when you do need to make a quick trip for supplies you’ll find both a Co-op and a Waitrose within walking distance of Therese House.

Fantastic Food and Drink

Some of London’s very best bars are in this area, including The Slaughtered Lamb, which offers an eclectic mix of comedy and music, not to mention their must-try burgers. Enjoy a beer? What the Craft Beer Company of Clerkenwell don’t know about beer isn’t worth knowing. Tinseltown serve up the finest American cuisine in the area, but if Italian is more your thing head round the corner to Fare, a beautiful little restaurant serving up the best pasta and pizza for miles around. For traditional pub grub, it’s a toss up between The Quality Chop House and The Crown Tavern, both specialising in high-quality modern British cuisine.  

Leafy London

Therese House is also surrounded by scenic, restful parks. King Square Gardens is a great spot to unwind but this area of London is full of glorious green spaces, such as Spa Fields and St. Luke’s Garden. You could visit a different park or gardens each day of the month if you so wish and they’re all ideal for jogging, sun-bathing and picnics in the summer.  

Boost Your Career

But it’s not all about rest and play, there are some useful work opportunities nearby too. A short walk away you’ll reach East London Tech City, which hosts a series of start-up businesses in innovative industries. You’ll find many of these companies host internships, work experience programs and networking events - invaluable for the budding entrepreneur.
