A guarantor is a person aged 18 or above who accepts joint financial responsibility for the tenancy and is liable to pay the rent if for any reason the student is unable to maintain payment of the rents as they fall due. The landlord has the right to pursue the guarantor for recovery of outstanding monies therefore, it is important that any guarantor understands their obligations.
Typically, students who choose to pay their rent monthly or termly will need a guarantor to support their application. If you opt to pay the total amount of your rent a guarantor might not be necessary, as upfront payment reduces the risk of missed payments.
Choosing your flatmate is sometimes possible, but it depends on the specific student accommodation and availability at the time of booking. If you're applying with a friend or have someone in mind you'd like to live with, let the accommodation team know as early as possible - they’ll do their best to place you together.
While it's not always guaranteed, especially during peak booking times, requests are considered on a case-by-case basis. Feel free to contact the site team for more details or to make a specific request.
