Hidden Gems in Dublin

Have you just moved to Dublin to embark on your student journey, or are you in your final year and tired of the same old plans? These hidden gems in Dublin might be right up your street…

At Yugo, we’ve been feeling inspired by the highly anticipated release of Wicked, and have been wondering where the iconic characters would choose to spend their time if they lived in the fair city.

Dublin, the Land of the Green, known for its array of nature spots such as St Stephen’s Green park, has much to offer - from secret bookshops and exclusive bars. So, why not find things to do in Dublin based on which Wicked character you find the most relatable or what vibe you’re feeling, leaving no yellow brick unturned…

Elphaba: The Secret Book and Record Store

Step into Elphaba’s shoes and try something a little different from your usual library at The Secret Book and Record Store. Visiting the same library every week can be a bore, and they might not have everything you need if you read for leisure.

This secret spot adds a magical element of discovery, you’ll find it down a hallway on Wicklow Street where you can follow the signs to the shop. They have plenty of second-hand books and records from all genres, and for true book lovers, it won’t disappoint.

Glinda: Doll Society

Think vibrant, whimsical, and most importantly… pink! Doll Society on Lemon Street is ideal for dressing up with friends and taking your pick from a range of Bottomless Brunches for €30. Expect DJs, drag queens, dance-offs, prizes, and more. If you vibe with Glinda’s bubbly and outgoing personality, this is the spot for you. Book your place here.

The Wizard: Dubh Linn Gardens

We know that living in a city can feel overwhelming at times, so take a leaf out of the Wizard’s book and escape the noise to Dublin Castle’s secret gardens. The gardens are directly behind the castle, and are free to enter.

The gardens have been around since at least the early years of the seventeenth century, and offer endless moments of tranquillity and nature immersion – perfect for an afternoon study break!

Fiyero: Vintage Cocktail Club

We think that the heartthrob Winkie Prince himself would know the best date night spot in the city– and the Vintage Cocktail Club offers just that. Ring the doorbell on Temple Bar to enter this hidden, exclusive cocktail bar and restaurant, ideal for cosying up with your date and a cheeky tipple. The Vintage Cocktail Club exudes 1920s chic with vintage furniture and a burning fire to keep the heat alive. With a bonus rooftop terrace, what’s not to love?

Dr Dillamond: Slice

Drawing inspiration from the warming and moral Dr Dillamond, we suggest this homely café in the heart of Stoneybatter on Manor Street Place. They serve up breakfast and all-day brunch, with locally sourced produce and plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. If you fancy throwing a private party for yourself or someone special, they’re perfect for groups of 15-30 people (as long as we’re invited!).

So, with the Wicked cast’s top hidden gems in Dublin officially selected, all that’s left for you to do is to follow the yellow brick road and get exploring!
