If you’re studying and living in Liverpool , then you’ll already know that the city is buzzing with life and things to do.

One of the top priorities when living in any city is where to find delicious grub.

Here are some of our favourite places to eat in Liverpool City Centre.

1. El Gato Negro

Look out for the black cat signs on Exchange Flags, and you'll find this stylish open plan restaurant.

El Gato Negro specialises in tapas, so even if your student budget doesn’t permit a fancy getaway, you can still get a taste of Spain in Liverpool!

Don’t miss out on the prawns with caramelised onions and peppers in garlic sauce, and you must try the salted cod fritters.

On warm summer evenings take advantage of the patio area for al fresco eating, which is heated for the not-so-warm days!

2. Yard and Coop

This Liverpool fave has something for everyone and is one of the best places to eat in Liverpool city centre.

Lovers of chicken will be especially happy here, as there’s succulent 24-hour brined buttermilk chicken crumbed in a secret herb crusting on offer.

Vegetarians are catered for as well, with the halloumi alternative option so you don't have to miss out. 

3. Mowgli Bold Street 

If you're looking for nice restaurants in Liverpool city centre, then Mowgli is a winner.

Serving up delicious traditional Indian street food, here you’ll find mouthwatering dishes like succulent meats to vegetable recipes. 

Most of the dishes are deceptively simple yet authentic meals.

4. Bouchon

If you like French food then this is one of the best places to eat in Liverpool city centre.

Rustic and bistro-style, Bouchon on Derby Square gives you the feeling that you’re sampling French cuisine in a cosy little restaurant in a back street in an outlying quarter of Paris.

Order a bourguignon, a tarte tatin and a bottle of vin rouge and you’ll be transported to another world.

Maggie Fu’s is a family run restaurant on Smithdown Road that keeps customers coming back for more.

It’s the perfect place to let your hair down after a long day of studying and grab a bite to eat with friends.

It offers scrumptious Asian street food, including amazing salt and pepper chicken and ramen bowls that everyone loves.

9. Gino’s at INNSiDE

This is one of two Gino’s in Liverpool, and it has a big open plan restaurant serving traditional Italian dishes.

As well as being one of the best places to eat in Liverpool city centre, it also boasts a 360 Sky Bar on the 17th floor  - the perfect place to hang out with uni friends on a Friday night and get some spectacular views over the city.

10. The Florist Liverpool

Another of the nicest places to eat in Liverpool is The Florist.

Here you can enjoy sirloin cuts with chunky chips, mushrooms and either peppercorn or chimichurri sauce for dipping. All in an absolutely stunning location.

11. Gordon Ramsey’s Bread Street Kitchen and Bar

New to Liverpool this year, Gordon Ramsay’s modern European restaurant, Bread Street Kitchen & Bar is definitely going to be a new experience!

Situated on Paradise Street next door to Browns and opposite John Lewis, this restaurant serves up Ramsay's signature dishes Beef Wellington, Butter Chicken Curry, and the Hell's Kitchen Burger. 

12. Art School Liverpool

Just off Hope Street, the Art School is always a top class experience. Set in exquisitely beautiful surroundings, the restaurant serves the best locally sourced ingredients made by expert chefs.

13. Röski 

Röski will take you out of your student bubble and into a fancy fine dining experience.

MasterChef: The Professionals’ Winner Anton Piotrowski and his team are the chefs in this restaurant.

14. 1931

New to the Hope Street Hotel complex, opposite Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, 1931 serves pizza, international breads, pasta and meatballs, salads and sharing boards.

This is fun place to hang out with uni mates as you can watch your order being prepared by Head Chef Vijay. 

The name of the restaurant comes from the trade routes that came through Liverpool in 1931.

15. Mamasan

Mamasan Bar and Brasserie offers a unique dining experience.

It combines fresh South East Asian flavours and British produce, all in the setting of lovely interiors and a stunning roof terrace and DJs.

16. Sanskruti

This is a fantastic vegetarian and vegan restaurant based on Bixteth Street, where you can sample authentic Indian cuisine. 

From poppadoms and pickles to street food and a full Thali, there’s a bit of everything on offer here.

Try the vegan dish called Kathal Lazeez, a tasty jackfruit curry.

17. Cowshed

If you are a meat lover or just looking to treat yourself after exam season, this place is top of the bill.

Here you can enjoy a selection of beef dishes served with classic & creative sides & drinks in a contemporary space.

18. Bacaro

At Bacaro on Castle Street fill your boots with the best pastas, pizzettes and charcuteries. 

This place is different as it offers small plates like tapas, which means that it’s a great idea to order lots of different dishes and sample lots of different dishes each time you return (and you’re definitely going to return!)

19. The Courtyard

The menu here is varied. You can sample small plates, platters and delicious sides, all perfect for sharing with your uni mates or on a date night.

Alongside the restaurant there’s a bar where you can try tasty dishes while having a cheeky drink.

20. Barnacle

Barnacle is based on the mezzanine of Duke Street Market and its main focus is contemporary cooking, locally-sourced organic dishes and food inspired by Liverpool’s maritime history.
