Outdoor Activities in Newcastle Perfect for Students

Now that the summer holidays are here and this year we’re free of Covid restrictions, it’s finally time to let our hair down!

There’s plenty of activities to do in Newcastle this summer, so if you’re living and studying in Geordie Land, then take note and grab your mates for a fun-packed summer!

Whitewater Tubing

Whitewater Tubing Newcastle is another of the amazing outdoor activities in Newcastle!

You get to ride some of the most exciting rapids in the UK and get your adrenaline fix - the perfect way to let off steam after a long exam season at uni!

Participants get free photos included, capturing the hair-raising moments when your tube makes its way down whitewater graded up to class 4+, before a waterfall jump!

There are experienced and qualified instructors on hand to guide you and you’ll be given specialist equipment so you don’t have to worry. Still, it’s not for the fainthearted!

Go Karting

Bring out your competitive side and take on your uni mates in what is certainly one of the speediest outdoor activities in Newcastle - Go Karting!

Every member of your group will be provided all the safety equipment necessary such as helmets and overalls. You’ll also get a full safety briefing and induction into racing before heading onto the 450 metres of multilevel track.

You’ll take on nine sharp bends, 100 metres on the straight to really get your speed up, and an average of just 32 seconds to finish the course.

You also get drinks and snacks - maybe just lay off them before you get onto the course!

Bubble Football

If you’re up for a laugh, this is definitely one of the best activities to do in Newcastle!

You step inside a giant inflatable transparent ball and have to take on an obstacle course, including a Zorb football game.

The beautiful game is transformed into the ridiculous as each player takes to the pitch in their own Zorb - rather than bringing out your inner Ronaldo you’ll most likely end up rolling helplessly around on the floor in fits of laughter.

Rage Buggies

Looking for more fun activities to do in Newcastle that get your adrenaline pumping? Look no further!

Rage Buggies form part of a racing day that will be unforgettable!

This amazing day starts off with a karting Grand Prix race, then onto a rage buggy rally and an off-road driving expedition using ex-army Land Rovers.

The Rage Buggies, fitted with 998cc V twin engines, are incredibly fast and responsive. Bring a friend and you can race in pairs on a 900m special rally stage.

The day comes complete with food and drink included so you can refuel after you’ve taken to the tracks.

Play with a Football Legend

Calling all footy fans!

This is one of our absolute favourite outdoor activities in Newcastle because it allows you to relive your childhood dreams of playing in the FA cup against your favourite players.

In this epic activity, the brainchild of ex-Arsenal winger, Perry Groves and sports journalist Josh Landy, you can choose from a line-up of over 60 footballers.

You can even combine with the NUFC Play on the Pitch experience to play at St James if it is available!

Amongst the players available are Newcastle’s Dietmar Hamann, Rob Lee, Ruel Fox, John Beresford and Steve Howey!

Kayaking and Canoeing

These two watersports are eternally popular, and you can get involved in Newcastle!

It’s arguably the best way to experience the waterways of Britain and see everything from a different perspective.

So get together with a couple of uni mates, pick up your oars and row, row, row your boat gently down the stream…

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

You’ll definitely have seen people doing Stand Up Paddle Boarding at one time or another.

This is one of the fastest growing water sports across the world right now, and it’s easily one of the most relaxing outdoor activities in Newcastle.

You can get up close to wildlife without scaring it away, and take in beautiful views across tranquil waters either standing up or sitting down  - whatever’s most comfortable.

Get Your Walking Boots On

Did you know that there are great expanses of rolling countryside and stunning coastline just outside of Newcastle?

Make the most of the Great British Summer by getting your walking shoes on and heading out into the great outdoors.

You’ll definitely feel reinvigorated after a long revision period once you feel the fresh air on your face and see the waterfall of  Jesmond Dene or the swans on Saltwell Park’s lake in Gateshead.

It doesn’t have to be a strenuous hike either - you could simply take a stroll along the Quayside and enjoy the best of the city’s open spaces.

Don’t forget to add to your To-Visit list the historic UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hadrian’s Wall and the Housesteads Roman Fort.

Paintball

Last but certainly not least - one of the best outdoor activities in Newcastle - the ever popular paintball.

This is a great one for a fun weekend with friends and a hilarious way to let off steam in the great outdoors.

There are lots of paintballing providers and packages out there. So get tooled up, assemble your teams and take out all your revision frustration on your uni mates with a barrage of painful paint!

It’s a truly exhilarating, action-packed and adrenaline fuelled activity that can last for hours, so make sure you’ve not had one too many bevvies the night before! Find out more here.

After you’ve been pummeled by paint or won the war against your mates, head home for a refreshing shower and enjoy the adrenaline comedown in your modern, comfy Knoll Court student residence in Newcastle.
