Booking Your Room

How long does a viewing take?

It usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes to tour our student accommodation in person, however, we also offer virtual viewings too! We can show you around via video call. Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, WhatsApp, you name it, just let us know what works best for you when booking.

What will I see at the viewing?

We will show you examples of the different room types available, and we're also happy to answer any questions you have on the local area, building facilities or anything else about Yugo.

Who can live at Yugo?

If you're a full or part-time student, enrolled at a recognised educational institution, we'd love you to come live with us. We will need to see a copy of your Confirmation of Enrolment or Acceptance Confirmation from your institution as part of the booking process. If you are an international student, we will also need a copy of your visa.

Is there an age limit for booking with Yugo?

Depends on the property! Yugo Perth City & University Square both accommodate under 18 students, provided it’s been confirmed by your university.

Yugo Berkeley Street is over 18 only.

Are all the rooms the same?

Do I have a choice of room? Whilst all of our rooms benefit from the same high standards, modern style and great features, there are different types of apartments, lots are different sizes and the view will vary. Our apartments are priced to reflect these differences as far as possible. The best thing to do if you're not sure is to contact us and we can talk you through the options and your requirements to find your perfect room.

How do I book a room?

It's simple! Book online via this website and the Yugo Student Portal, select your room preferences and complete your booking.

Can I choose who I live with?

You can choose to live with your friends by selecting the same apartment when you book with us. Please note, this is subject to availability, so it’s best to book early to avoid disappointment!

Do I need to pay a deposit/bond?

Yes, when you book you are required to pay a 2-week deposit to reserve your room which will go towards your rent. You are also required to pay a bond (equivalent to 4 weeks rent) before checking in. This will be registered with the RTBA (VIC), RBO (SA) or the DMIRS (WA) and held as a security deposit for the duration of your stay. It will be then be refunded at the end of the tenancy provided you have no outstanding rent, damages to the room or cleaning fees. If there are any damages to your room when you leave you may be charged.  

Do you provide single-gender only accommodation?

All of our properties are mixed genders but automatically split into single male or female apartments. If you would like to live with friends of mixed genders, we are happy to house you together. If you identify your gender, you can select your preferred apartment. However, this is subject to demand and flat availability, so we recommend getting in touch as early as possible with any requests. 

Can I personalise my room?

As long as you are able to return it to its original state on check-out or you will be recharged for any damages.

Where can I smoke?

We don’t allow smoking or vaping inside your residence, including the common areas, e.g. rooftop terraces. However, you’re free to smoke outside of the building. 

Can I keep a fridge in my room?

Additional fridges are only allowed in your room if they are for the purpose of storing prescribed medication. 

Can I bring a pet?

We love fluffy animals but we do not allow tenants to bring pets into the building. 

Are there spare rooms for visitors to stay in?

No, unfortunately, our residences are filled to the brim with fun-loving students every year.

Are there any social events for residents?

We host socials all year round for you and your roommates to enjoy; from spiritual and cultural get-togethers to fitness events and much more. 

If I don’t get on with my new roommates can I change rooms?

We want to make sure that you love your experience living with us, so if you find you’re not getting on with your new roommates it may be possible to change rooms subject to availability. Get in touch with your resident team for more information. You will also be charged an admin fee to change room, this will only be waived if there are extenuating circumstances.

What happens if something in my apartment breaks or doesn’t work?

Our friendly maintenance team is always on hand if something in your apartment breaks or doesn’t work. Just fill in a maintenance request form and our facilities assistant will get to it as soon as possible.

Can I have friends or family to stay?

If you are in a shared apartment you cannot have any overnight guests. If you are in a studio apartment and would be happy to share your double bed, you can have a guest for a night or two. We have a strict policy regarding guests sleeping on the floor due to this being a fire safety regulation.

Are the social spaces always open?

Yep! Common spaces are all open 24/7. You can also book the space if you would like a guaranteed time.

Accommodation Amenities 

Is wifi included?

Yes, we offer high-speed Wi-Fi as standard in all rooms, and it’s also available in our social spaces and communal areas.

What appliances are included in your apartment when you arrive? 

All apartments are fitted with a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, oven/microwave and certain ones with a cooktop. Other appliances may depend on the type of room or residence you book with.

Vacuum cleaners, mops, irons and ironing boards are available to hire free of charge at all of our residences.

Where do I do my washing? 

We have on-site laundry facilities for you to use whenever you need them during your stay. 

What equipment is in the gym?

The residences that include a gym on-site have free weights and/or weight training equipment, cardiovascular equipment and yoga mats. Some of our properties also have fitness suites with more specialised equipment or dance/yoga studios! 

Can I have parcels delivered to my building?

Our reception team is always on hand to accept your parcels and signed-for items so you never miss a delivery. We’ll also send you an email reminder when your package is ready for collection. 

Who is responsible for cleaning?

We look after cleaning in the communal spaces.

You are responsible for cleaning in your apartment, along with your roommates if you have them. We offer a cleaning service, contact us for more information.

How secure is the bike storage?

Most of our bike storage is inside our secure properties, so only residents can gain access. However, in some residences our bike storage is outside on campus and where possible away from the main streets. In all cases, we recommend using a secure bike lock for extra security. 

Is there parking for students on-site?

Some of our residences have parking on site for you to use during your stay with us. Check our residence pages or get in touch for more information.  

Moving Day

Do I need to do anything before I arrive?

Before you check-in, there will be documents available for you to complete on the portal. This is all the information you need to know regarding building rules, fire safety, post & parcel disclaimers etc.

If you have not completed this prior to your arrival you will not be able to check-in and will be asked to complete it at reception before collecting your keys.

What documents do I need to check-in?

Before you arrive we will ask you to upload some documents to the Student Portal. We will need to see a copy of your Confirmation of Enrolment from your institution and a copy of your Passport or other official ID. If you are an international student we will need a copy of your visa.

What time can I arrive?

You can arrive any time after 2 pm (apart from Adelaide where you can check in at any time throughout the day) on the day your contract starts, there is an option to select your arrival time on the portal after you have completed your booking. Out of hours, arrivals are possible but please make sure you have completed all documents and payments for your booking and made arrangements with the team.

Can I bring family and friends with me when I move in?

Yes! Family & friends are welcome to help you move into your new home, however we ask you to be mindful of other students. 

Do I need to bring my own bedding and kitchen equipment?

Yes, bedding and kitchen equipment is not included in your room as standard, however we have handy bedding and kitchen packs available to purchase on the Student Portal or at reception.

If you have booked a short stay you can request bedding.

Can I move in before my contract starts?

In many cases, we can allow people to move in early at a daily rate, but you will need to contact the residence team to check if your room is available and change your contract to your new start date.

Where can I park when I’m unpacking?

When your move-in date approaches, we’ll be in touch to advise where you can park nearby to unload your belongings. 

Rent & Tenancy Agreements 

How do I pay rent?

If you select to pay your rent fortnightly, you'll need to register for Direct Debit before you move in, then your payments will be collected automatically when they are due, easy! If you choose to pay in full you'll need to pay with a credit or debit card via the Student Portal.

Can I pay rent by bank transfer?

We ask students to pay their rent by Direct Debit or via the Student Portal as it is safer and more efficient, but in some instances you may be able to pay by bank transfer, speak to the team for more information.

Are there any extra bills I have to pay?

Utilities including high speed Wi-Fi are all included in your rent, so there’s no need to worry about paying bills on time. The only additional item to pay for is use of the laundry machines when you do your washing. Parking may also be available at an additional cost, speak to the team for more information. 

Can I sublet my room?

No - unfortunately, we do not allow students to sublet their rooms throughout their contract with us. If you find a replacement tenant we will take care of the paperwork for them to take over your tenancy.

Can I move out early?

Yes - provided you find a replacement tenant for your room, then you can get in touch with the team to discuss the details. Admin fees may apply. 

Can I pay from an international bank account?

You can pay via the Student Portal with a credit or debit card, which includes international payments. Remember, if you choose to pay your rent fortnightly you will need to register for Direct Debit, which required an Australian debit card.

Safety & Security

Is there always a member of staff available on site?

We have staff available 24 hours a day, so if you ever have a request, a member of our residence team can help you day or night. 

How safe is the accommodation?

All of the entrances to our residences are access controlled as well as monitored by CCTV 24 hours a day, and all apartment doors secured with electronic locks operated with a key fob. We also aim to always have resident teams on site should you ever need extra support. 

Is the building regularly inspected for fire safety?

The safety of our students is very important to us. We have fire alarm tests and inspections on fire safety practices regularly across all of our residences.
