Cool Things to Do in Liverpool as a Student

Liverpool has lots to offer if you’re living and studying here.

In between study sessions and exam periods, there’s plenty of cool things to do in Liverpool.

Here’s a rundown of our favourite things to do in this incredible city.

Pay a Visit to Liverpool’s Museums and Art Galleries

The famous Tate Gallery is ideal if you’re looking for cool things to do in Liverpool as a student.

It’s home to loads of contemporary art and has an unconventional air, being home to iconic works from artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and Louise Bourgeois.

So if you’re looking to impress your special date, take them here!

For more cultural plans, we definitely recommend a visit to The Museum of Liverpool, located in a stunning building on the waterfront.

In this museum you’ll learn about how life in Merseyside has evolved over the decades, and see artefacts related to the iconic pop legends,  The Beatles! A must-see for any history students out there!

Another option for history fans is the Maritime Museum, nestled amongst Liverpool’s museums and galleries at the Royal Albert Dock.

Here you can discover more about Liverpool’s important role in the Titanic story, as well as its fascinating history of shipping and travel. You’ll find yourself engrossed in it, for sure!

Indulge in a Photo Session at Palm House

We don’t know about you, but we’re always looking for more content for our Instagram feed.

Palm House and the surrounding Sefton Park make for the perfect setting to set up a photo session.

In Palm House you can bask in a beautiful collection of plants from around the world, and the stunning Sefton Park will become your favourite spot for a Sunday afternoon stroll to unwind before the week ahead’s lectures.

Step into Liverpool Cathedral

For breathtaking architecture, head over to this Anglican Cathedral - it’s the largest cathedral in Britain and took over 74 years to build.

The Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral also has some of the most distinctive architecture to be seen in the city, and is affectionately known as ‘Paddy’s Wigwam’ thanks to its unusual structure.

Check Out Chinatown

On Nelson Street, you’ll find Liverpool’s Chinatown. A visit to this area is undoubtedly one of the more cool things to do in Liverpool, as it was the first Chinatown in Europe!

You’ll be spoilt for choice for Chinese restaurants, takeaways and shops to explore.

Many of the Liverpudlian Chinese population and the international students in the city love to frequent this area, so you will immediately be immersed in a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Pretty cool, eh?

Ghetto Golf

For just £12, you can get stuck into a game of crazy golf with a twist.

At Ghetto Golf, you play 18 holes of mini golf whilst dousing your tastebuds with a mix of cocktails, BBQ street food and all set to a soundtrack by local DJs.

Each hole has a different theme for extra fun, and the whole venue is decorated with some impressive graffiti artwork to set the scene.

Definitely up there with cool things to do in Liverpool with your uni mates!

Indoor Paintballing

If you’re a fan of paintball but not so much a fan of the cold Liverpudlian winters, then this one's for you.

Even in the bleakest of midwinters, you can still enjoy paintballing without freezing to death!

Not only is this activity a super cool thing to do in Liverpool, but it's also a fantastic way to bond with your uni flatmates or coursemates.

What’s even better is that you don’t even have to get muddy like in traditional outdoor paintball, and it’s just a five-minute walk from the city centre and our student accommodation.

Breakout Liverpool Escape Room

If you’re into active, immersive activities that challenge your brainpower, then head to this escape room in Liverpool.

At Breakout there’s a range of themed rooms for various tastes and preferences.

Choose from heist, shipwreck or cursed carnival.

Wakeboarding at Liverpool Wake Park

At Mariners Wharf you can have a go at wakeboarding while being surrounded by an unusual urban environment. It certainly makes for a memorable experience that you can boast to your uni mates about!

Ascend St Johns Beacon

From this spot 120 metres in the air you can see amazing views over the city.

One of the cool things to do in Liverpool for a special date or something different to enjoy with uni friends.

Go on a Mersey Cruise

For another alternative view of the city, try out this Merseyside cruise which sets off from Pier Head or Woodside.

A great way to see all of the most iconic Liverpool buildings in a new light. Just make sure you wrap up warm - it can get a bit nippy!
