8 Things to Do in London as a Student

Living and studying in London, one thing’s for sure: you’ll never be bored!

The UK’s capital is jam packed with life, events, activities and entertainment venues.

Here’s just a tiny sample of the millions of things to do in London as a student…

Ballie Ballerson

If you’ve ever secretly wanted to dive into the kids’ ball pits in grown up venues, and don’t mind getting a bit sweaty, then the famous Ballie Ballerson is calling your name!

It’s a venue designed to bring out your inner big kid, as it’s basically an enormous pit bar full of ONE MILLION balls in the pool.

Chuck into the experience a few drinks and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a raucously fun experience! Let your hair down and jump right in!

See a Play or Musical at the West End

This should be on every bucket list of things to do in London as a student!

The West End is internationally renowned for its never ending array of musicals and theatre shows.

Mamma Mia! is bags of fun to sing along to, while new shows like Six are a modern take on the six wives of Henry the Eighth.

Classics like The Phantom of the Opera are perennials that you definitely shouldn’t miss out on.

Speaking of theatre, Literature and History students would be mad not to pay a visit to Shakespeare’s  Globe Theatre during their time living in London. A time machine if ever one existed!

Visit the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace

When living in London you are surrounded by reminders of the royal presence in the city.

Whether it be the Changing of the Guard, or big occasions like the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee animating the whole city, the royalty form part of the fabric of London life.

If that’s your thing, then don’t miss out on the summer opening of the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace. It’s like stepping inside an episode of The Crown, and can imagine yourself taking tea with the Queen!

Have a Picnic in the Park

After a long week of revision sessions and lectures, sometimes all you feel like doing is relaxing in the great outdoors.

If that sounds good to you, the good news is that London has some magnificently pretty parks.

A picnic in a park on a summer’s day can be one of the best things to do in London as a student. So grab some food and your mates, sit back and people-watch!

Visit the London Dungeons

If you prefer to beat exam stress with a good dose of laughter and adrenaline, then this one’s for you.

The London Dungeons take you on an interactive tour of London throughout the ages, focusing on the more gruesome aspects of the city’s  history.

The brilliant actors will rope you into their antics,  from hunting Jack the Ripper to escaping the Fire of London, from colluding with the Gunpowder Plot to being threatened by Sweeney Todd’s pie-making girlfriend, you’ll be left reeling until your final scream on the gallows!

Not for the faint hearted!

Do a Walking Tour

Speaking of Jack the Ripper, he features on some of the many walking tours of London.

There are many other tours that focus on other aspects of the city’s history.

A great way to explore the city, and one of the more fascinating things to do in London as a student.

Oh, and the Jack the Ripper tour ends in the famous Ten Bells pub in Shoreditch - a hidden gem!

Get a Bird’s Eye View in the Sky Garden

Panoramic 360 degree views of the vast city of London are the order of the day in the Sky Garden.

Set atop one of London’s tallest buildings, the Fenchurch building (a.k.a. ‘The Walkie Talkie’), it’s ideal for taking stunning pics for your Insta feed and spotting some famous London landmarks. After, have a few bevvies in the bars located on the same floor.

For an alternative perspective of the city, The London Eye offers unbeatable views from the South Bank of the River Thames.

Visit the Museum of London

Culture vultures will revel in the Museum of London’s fascinating exhibitions.

Whether it be Women’s History, Black History, or collections focusing on events like the Great Fire of London, this museum’s contents will make the time whizz by - great for those quieter, rainy days.

There are so many things to do in London as a student that we could keep going on for days, but we won’t! Better that you discover them for yourself while you’re living at your modern student accommodation in London, where the opportunities are endless!
