7 Lancaster Uni Restaurants Every Student Needs to Know About

Every student needs to have their go-to places to eat out, whether it be as an occasional treat as a reward for work well done, fuel for studying, or simply to socialise with friends. Lancaster has all you need on campus to keep you going while you’re studying.

Here’s just a small selection of Lancaster uni restaurants for you to see what’s on the menu.

1. HIVE

HIVE is one of the newest Lancaster uni restaurants, based at the state-of-the-art Health Innovation Campus. It’s certainly set to make your mouth water as here you can sample a varied selection of omelettes, salads, topped toasts, freshly prepared flatbreads, and hot daily specials.

As you can see, most of the options are nice and healthy which means that not only will you be fuelling your mind and body, but you’ll also be taking care of yourself. A lot of students forget that a healthy, happy student is a productive student. What you put into your body will determine how animated you feel in general, so don’t forget to try and choose healthy options wherever possible!

Let’s not forget inclusivity, either. There’s something for everyone at HIVE, as they provide vegan and low sugar options.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, (let’s face it, we all deserve a treat every now and then as a reward for hard work!), there’s a scrumptious selection of patisserie products and you can take out ‘pick your fix’ bags to have something to nibble on later when you’re studying!

2. The Trough of Bowland

This place is a classic Great British pub set on campus, and truly has the Lancaster northern working men’s vibe about it.

If perhaps a little rough around the edges, still it has all the ingredients to make a cosy pub. When you enter, you’ll notice that it’s decorated in traditional pub style, with authentic stone floors and sturdy wooden bar tops where you can choose from core and premium lagers.

It’s the ideal setting to bring your laptop to study out if you need to get out of your bedroom and don’t fancy the stern silence of the library. Conveniently situated on the doorstep of Bowland College, during the day it has a pretty chilled atmosphere, yet remains conducive to productivity.

What’s more, you don’t have to go very far if you fancy grabbing a spot of  lunch in between studies! In terms of food, you can expect classic pub grub, with the traditional pie and a pint meal deal. Remember that an army marches on its stomach, and a student studies effectively on a pie and a pint!

The Trough is also an ideal venue to simply meet up with friends, relax and have a laugh together. That’s made very easy by the fact that this place has all the usual pub features - a pool table, dart boards, and a ping pong table. The time will fly once you’re in here with your mates!

3. The Mill

Another of the great Lancaster Uni restaurants situated at the centre of the university, is The Mill @ Fylde. It’s the biggest name on campus, thanks to its legendary fry ups and fast food.

Until midday you can order the best hangover cure in existence, the good old traditional English breakfast. This mouth watering classic dish has gained legendary status at The Mill, as it leaves nothing out - get your fill of  bacon, beans, black pudding, hash browns, fried egg, and toast. It really is the perfect fuel to keep you going throughout the busy deadline season, and will be a lifesaver during exam period! What more could you ask for?

If you don’t manage to get up for the breakfast menu, then fear not! From midday onwards The Mill serves up a variety of absolutely scrumptious burgers, including the star feature, Big Mill.

Veggies are not left out of the fun.  On the burger menu you’ll find a range of meat-free options. You can order the gorgeous Cauliflower Smoke, and for the more hipster amongst you - the Smashed Avo burger.

We can assure you that this place will become one of your staple options for dining out!

4. The Deli

This amazing venue is also based in the centre of the campus, and is the best solution for a quick energy fix in the middle of a busy day, or to get the day off on the right foot.

The Deli not only serves up barista quality Atkinson’s Coffee (to turbo charge you with energy for the day ahead!), but also a tempting array of fresh, fast, delicious food.

If you’re bored of jam on toast and weetabix then make sure you head over to the Deli. The breakfast menu, available until 11.30am, consists of delicious, fluffy American pancakes, scrumptious muffins and indulgent coconut milk porridge. The best way to get the day started!

Later on in the day, you can choose from the many of the culinary gems on the versatile lunch menu in this amazing Lancaster uni restaurant. A so-good-it’s-sinful Mac ‘n’ cheese will call your name - be sure to try it out. You can also get hold of flatbreads and sandwiches, and if you’re aiming to be healthy then check out the refreshing, crispy salads on offer here.

If you fancy something naughty but nice before you get back to studying, then check out the many flavours of ice cream sundaes on offer - including Oreo, Malteser, Crunchie, and many more.

5. Barkers

On the South-West Campus in Cartmel College, you’ll find an old farmhouse renovated with modern touches. This is Barkers, another of the Lancaster uni restaurants full to the brim with character. The food menu here is crammed with deliciously satisfying traditional pub grub. The menu consists of the usual pub staples like lasagne, juicy burgers and pizzas with a variety of toppings..

What’s more, if you need an energy boost before you get back to your books, you can also get hold of a Starbucks coffee here.

6. The Marketplace

Another of the best Lancaster Uni restaurants is The Marketplace. It’s situated at the heart of County South in the north of the campus, next to the main campus kitchen. With a fully stocked bar, Costa coffee, and delicious food, it has something for every possible occasion.

You can order a full English breakfast, toast with any topping, cereals, and continental breakfasts to mix it up a bit. Around midday the lunch service starts, where you can choose from two meat options or a vegetarian option if you prefer, and hot sides that change on a daily basis.

The beauty of the Marketplace is that its menu is so varied that you could come here every day of the week and enjoy a different dish. Say goodbye to the days of pot noodles and pasta 7 days a week! If you visit the Marketplace later on in the day, there’s plenty of variety to choose from on the new menu. You can easily while away the hours wining and dining with friends, sampling new dishes.

We recommend that you try out the scrummy vegan steak and Guinness pie, or check out the homemade tagliatelle. Share a platter with friends, or simply enjoy a bevvy or two from the bar.

7. Graduate College

This is another of the Lancaster uni restaurants that has a distinctly cosy pub vibe.

At Graduate College there’s a really chilled atmosphere. You can try out their selection of craft beers and on Fridays they have a curry day. It’s the perfect way to finish off a long week of study and lectures.
