How Safe is Perth for Students?
So, you may be wondering, how safe is it for students to live in Perth? Perth is home to a large number of international students and many believe Perth is one of the safest cities in the world because of its friendly people and great sense of community! Moving to a foreign country can be scary at first and we know that looking for safe and secure student accommodation in Perth is a priority. So we’ve outlined all the details such as who to contact and safety features to help you feel safe in Perth!
Who to contact if you need help?
In an emergency situation, the number to call is 000. This number will give you access to fire fighters, ambulances and police. For non-emergency police assistance please call 131 444.
Police in Perth are very friendly! Don’t be afraid to speak to them if you need help.
Universities
During the stressful exam periods, you might want to spend a few more extra hours in the library or at uni. All universities in Perth have 24 hour a day security team and provide escort services to all students. So, if you are studying late at night, someone can escort you to your next building, bus stop or carpark.
University buildings such as libraries, also have key card entry to main buildings in the evenings, so you’ll only find other students and staff in the buildings. Most campuses are also equipped with emergency telephones or call boxes that connect you straight to security if you find yourself needing assistance.

The Boulevard Safety
Our brand new student accommodation in Perth is located in Northbridge, which is known for entertainment and nightlife. This is great if you want to have a good night out with your friends or eat at some of Perth’s best restaurants! The general area surrounding The Boulevard is quiet and not directly on Northbridge’s vibrant main strip. So, don’t worry about being distracted whilst trying to study!
After a late night, taking taxis or walking with friends is always recommended. There are a lot of restaurants in Northbridge and they are always open, so generally the area won’t be too quiet. The building itself is fitted with 24 hour a day security as well as CCTV cameras. If you’re ever locked out of the building or you need help, there will always be a staff member around 24/7 to call upon a The Boulevard. Public Transport
Perth’s public transport consists of buses, trains and ferries and they are all relatively safe. They are all fitted with 24/7 CCTV cameras. Staying at The Boulevard puts you in the heart of Perth’s transport hub so getting around is relatively simple! All buses, trains, ferry’s and stations are fitted with emergency buttons so you can speak to someone if there isn’t a Transit Officer on duty.
In the evenings, trains are generally safer than buses as they are well lit and often have at least one Transit Officer in each carriage. After 7pm, it is possible to ask your bus driver to drop you off closer to your destination if there’s no stop within close proximity. Nightlife
The Boulevard is located within close proximity to Perth’s nightlife and entertainment district, Northbridge. This generally means there is always people out and about in the evenings. In the later hours of the night, Taxis and Ubers are frequently available in these areas, are safer and are a more reliable alternative to public transport. All major clubs and bars enforce strict security guards, so if you do find yourself in an unsafe situation it’s best to alert them straight away!

Beach Safety
We all know Australia has beautiful beaches. They are popular destinations for international students to relax after a long day of studying and the best place to go in Perth’s sunny weather. Beaches can be unpredictable at times and can hold dangers that are not easily seen. If you are a weaker swimmer, it is recommended to visit a patrolled beach and swim with a friend. Patrolled beaches have trained life guards, who are there to help in any situation whether in water or on land.
It is also important to swim between the red and yellow flags, this means you are in the area they are patrolling and if you need help in the water, they will be able to spot you. If you ever need a lifeguard’s help in the water just stay calm and wave you hand in the air and they’ll know to come.
