Hidden Gems in London
Have you just moved to London to embark on your student journey, or are you in your final year and tired of the same old plans? These hidden gems in London might be right up your street…
At Yugo, we’ve been feeling inspired by the highly anticipated release of Wicked, and have been wondering where the iconic characters would choose to spend their time if they lived in the big smoke.
Much like the Emerald City, London is our capital, known for its rich culture, vibrancy, and secret nature spots. So, why not find some fun new things to do in London, based on which Wicked character you find the most relatable, or what vibe you’re feeling - leaving no yellow brick unturned…
Elphaba: Sauna Social Club
Step into Elphaba’s shoes and try something a little different at Sauna Social Club in Peckham. Yes, it literally is a social club, with saunas. Student life can often become stressful, so focusing on your wellbeing as well as involving yourself in uplifting communities is key.
Sauna Social Club are running four types of sessions each week, all designed to encourage you to experience saunas in a new way - including an ‘Ambient Sauna’ on Friday and Saturday nights with live DJs to soundtrack the sessions.
Once you’ve used the sauna, you can relax in their lounge on comfy sofas and cushions with access to their cocktail bar, offering non-alcoholic cocktails, soft drinks and low-alcohol beers. Book your session here.
Glinda: Little Nan’s Bar
Little Nan’s Bar in Deptford, tucked under the Victorian arches, is ideal for glamming up with friends and taking your pick from Afternoon Tea or Bottomless Brunch. If you vibe with Glinda’s bubbly and outgoing personality, this is the Saturday night spot for you - think vibrant, whimsical, and exciting.
The Wizard: Dalston Curve Garden
We know that London can feel overwhelming at times, so take a leaf out of the Wizard’s book and escape the noise to Dalston Curve Garden. Grab yourself a hot drink, a beer, or a bite - and cosy up amongst the foliage.
You can find it just off Dalston’s Kingsland High Street on Dalston Lane, and they also have a varied programme of events and activities throughout the year to look forward to.
Fiyero: The Haggerston
We think that the heartthrob Winkie Prince himself would know the best date night spot in the city – and The Haggerston could be one of London’s best hidden gems.
This affordable pub (that transforms into a dancefloor) with an upstairs venue is a seven-minute walk from Haggerston station, and 12 minutes from Dalston Junction. You can enjoy an intimate drink, or attend one of London’s longest-running Live Jazz nights on a Sunday for free until 1am.
Dr Dillamond: The Premises Café and Bistro
Drawing inspiration from the warming and moral Dr Dillamond, this budget-friendly, family-ran café and bistro on Hackney Road is an ultimate brunch spot.
They serve their beloved English breakfast throughout the day, as well as traditional homemade Turkish dishes, a classic selection of salads, pasta, fish, and lots of veggie options.
It’s connected to The Premises Studios, with a star-studded wall of all the famous musicians and creatives who dine there, and is located just moments away from the notorious Columbia Road Flower Market. Sounds like a great day out to us!
So, with the Wicked cast’s top hidden gems in London officially selected, all that’s left for you to do is to follow the yellow brick road and get exploring!
