Cambridge: The Ultimate Student City Guide

One of the most prestigious cities in the world, Cambridge is famous the world over. It has been immortalised in countless works of film and literature, as well as producing some of Britain’s leading talents. But it’s not all about culture, Cambridge also has a fantastic nightlife scene, and a wealth of daytime options, whether you like to stay active or prefer to relax. Here’s the ultimate student guide to this fantastic city.

Relaxing Daytime

Cambridge is full of cute little cafes, laid-back bars and casual restaurants. The Cambridge Blue is a popular pub, with a huge range of specialist beers, just a few minutes walk from Anglia House. Looking for a caffeine fix? Hot Numbers Coffee is just as close, and this friendly independent cafe features a packed line-up of meetups and live gigs, making it perfect for making new friends.

Legendary Arts Scene

Cambridge has one of the most influential art scenes in the world, thanks to the drama society Footlights which has produced some of the UK’s most famous actors and comedians. But it has more to offer than stagecraft - there are new galleries and art spaces popping up all over the city. The nearby Ruskin Gallery has a proud history of showcasing modern art from exciting young artists, while a short walk brings you to the Cambridge Arts Theatre, which offers a diverse programme of drama, dance, opera and more.

Exciting Nights Out

You’ll find a great selection of nightclubs in Cambridge city centre, with something for every night of the week. Sip elegant cocktails at the wonderful Hidden Rooms, or for a wilder night head down to retro-style club Kuda on Sidney Street with its multicoloured light-up dancefloor.

Go Exploring

If you like adventure, Cambridge has plenty to offer. The city is surrounded by miles of beautiful countryside, plus there are enough nature reserves, parks and places for scenic walks that you’ll never run out of places to get back to nature. At Anglia House, you’re only a stone’s throw from the River Cam where you can spend days visiting each one of its many famous bridges.

Shop Til You Drop

Love shopping? Cambridge has everything you need. The Grafton Centre is close to Anglia House and has a great range of modern high-street stores, plus some top-class places to stop off to eat and drink. The Grand Arcade, in the heart of the city, is another high-profile retail destination, with dozens of smart stores selling everything you can think of. Don’t forget the traditional market in the historic market square - stalls have been trading here since the Middle Ages.

Cambridge is one of Britain’s most distinguished cities, rich in history and surrounded by beautiful scenery. But that’s not all, there’s something for everyone here, from partying to more peaceful activities. And Anglia House is the perfect place to kickstart your adventures.
