What's it Really Like to Live at University Square?

A Night at University Square with our Marketing Assistant, Georgie Choosing your student accommodation can be hard and you may be wondering: What is it really like to live with The Student Housing Company? To give you a true glimpse into a day in the life of a TSHC student, we sent in our Marketing Assistant and current student, Georgie, to stay at our first Australian property, University Square, for one night with two other friends. Check out what Georgie got up to as she documented her night staying at University Square: 5:00 pm I checked into the University Square and made myself at home in one of the three-bedroom apartments! The best part about checking in is you receive a welcome card with lots of helpful info about the building and the area. My bedroom for the nightThe entrance to University Square5:30 pm As a current student at The University of Melbourne, I know how hard it can be to find a spot to study at university libraries. So, I took advantage of my stay at University Square and made sure I spent some time studying in the awesome communal study spaces. Studying in the ground floor study areasThe communal area where students hang out or studyThese spaces are great because not only are they quiet, but they’ve got everything you need (including lots of power points, which are always scarce at uni libraries) to focus and stay in your study zone. 7:00 pm After a few hours of studying, it was time for some well-deserved Uber Eats. Staying in Carlton means you are spoilt for choice when it comes to food. You can choose from authentic Italian food around Lygon street, delicious Asian food from Chinatown, Middle Eastern food from Brunswick or basically any cuisine your heart desires as you are within walking distance from the CBD. For a full break down of Melbourne’s areas and food scene, check out our guide for international students! As my friends and I were having a movie night, we couldn’t go past ordering pizza from my personal favourite hole-in-the-wall Carlton joint, Kaprica. If you’re looking for awesome (and affordable) food options around Melbourne University and University Square, check out our Cheap Eats blog for our list of favourites! 7:30 pm One of the best things about staying at University Square is there is always something to do. In the ground floor games area, you have the choice of the arcade machine, table tennis and a pool table, which all provide you with hours of fun. The games area has table tennisAnd a pool table! These games make a great post-dinner activity or an even better study break. 8:30 pm Time for a movie in the cinema area! The cinema area is epic because it has multiple levels of comfy cushions and bean bags around a huge flat screen TV. It’s also super easy to stream whatever you like because Netflix is already set up on the TV! The comfiest bean bags in the cinema areaOf course, we watched a chick flick and some University Square students joined us to watch the movie too! Watching our favourite chick flick with other University Square students8:00 am Waking up to unbeatable city views was maybe the highlight of my night at University Square. You get a full 180-degree view of the city from the third floor, so we decided to have breakfast on the Level 3 outdoor terrace. These city views make mornings easierThe communal kitchen on Level 3 is the perfect space to cook up an epic breakfast with friends before a day at work or university. Breakfast on the third floor is the best start to the day! After an epic breakfast, it was time for work and my night at University Square was already over. The night flew by and it really showed me how much there is to do in the building. From games to movie nights, to epic breakfasts with city views – the building offers it all, and I genuinely felt spoilt for choice when it came to studying and hanging out with friends! To wrap it all up, the best part was that University Square is located right across the road from Melbourne University, so getting to my 9:00 am lecture literally meant I had to cross the road – you just can’t beat that location.   Want to see more of University Square? Take a video tour around the building with our Student Brand Ambassador, Megan. Or visit our friendly team in our display suite, and they can take you on a tour around the property in person. Arrange a viewing in advance and we will be awaiting you!
