Because sometimes you want to get more yummy for your money

Okay okay. It’s better to eat healthy, but sometimes you’ve got a takeaway shaped hole to fill. We’d all rather be happy than hangry. So let’s look at the most student-friendly places to tuck in:

1. Best Mexican

Benito’s Hat

56 Goodge Street, London W1T 4NB

Benito’s might strike you as just another burrito place. It sure looks that way. But once you take a bite you will sit down and pay attention. These are some mighty tasty burritos!

There’s plenty of choice for fillings – refried beans, rice, peppers, guacamole and much more to choose. And there’s plenty more sauces too – from mild to spicy. All for under £10.

2. Best Vegetarian

Beatroot

92 Berwick Street, London W1F 0QD

Hot veggies. Cold veggies. And temperatures in-between. This quirky cafe has plenty to offer for vegetarians – and for students who are vegicurious.

There’s a lot of variety: we recommend the spinach lasagne or something a bit lighter try the Quinoa Tabbouleh. All the Food comes in combinations and boxes – starting as low as £4.70.

3. Best Italian

Pizza Union

25 Sandy’s Row, London E1 7HW

Big pizzas, small prices. This place is the jackpot when you want a pizza that’s both tasty and affordable. The menu is varied, and has all the classics as well as a bunch of oddities to try.

Like the intriguing Dolce pizza. It’s dough filled with Nutella and mascarpone. This is then cooked and dusted with icing sugar, and cocoa powder. So what you end up with is something like a Nutella calzone.

Of course you don’t have to be mad for Nutella to enjoy the rest of the menu. And it’s as cheap as £6 a pizza!

4. Best Chinese

Home

318 Lewisham High Street, London SE13 6JZ

This place has a huge following. That’s partly thanks to its high quality and affordable grub. Most of this is Chinese, but there’s a selection of food from the other nearby regions too.

That includes Cantonese and Szechuan to Mongolian (and even English for the less adventurous). So there’s enough choice to please your whole group – no matter what your tastes are.

Delivery is free in selected postcodes so you don’t have to spend a fortune. For example the crispy aromatic duck is just £7.20.

5. Best Wildcard

Adiva

43a Commercial Street, London E1 6BD

The reviews around the net prove that this Tower Hamlets takeaway is one of the most popular in the city. And if you just put it in its own category – Lebanese – some might say that it’s the best.

We recommend the chargrilled skewers and the cold mezze plates, because they are delicious. But you should keep some room for desert too – we’d walk a thousand miles for that pistachio cheesecake.

Prices vary, but here are special offers and discounts. Go for the lunchtime menu and you can get a mezze and a main for £8.95.
