This year the National Student Housing Awards took a different approach. 

Due to the pandemic of COVID-19 student accommodation has had to adapt. Students needed a new type of support and the team at The Student Housing Company rose to the challenge. 

Global Student Living approached all of our amazing residents to ask who in their residence support team has gone above and beyond during these trying times and why they deserve to win a Student Accommodation Hero Award. An incredible 25 nominations came in for our residence team members, something we are so proud of. Thank you for all the nominations! 

And the winners are...

Joe Stojic, General Manager at Knoll Court, our Newcastle residence, won the Professional award. Read what our resident had to say in their nomination:

"During my time in accommodation. Joe has been there to answer all questions I have and has helped me with this many times. No matter what it's been about, he's always gotten back to me really quickly and has always been lovely when approached in person. When I was having issues with my flatmates, Joe was the first person I went to and he was quick to talk to them. I get the impression he really does care about the students in the accommodation and in general he is a very welcoming and polite person."

Nicola Ronney, Admin Assistant at Austen House, Southampton also took home the win for the Community Builder award. The resident who nominated Nicola said:

"Because she's gone above and beyond her job title! She tries to make the remaining students comfortable and happy, she makes videos teaching us new things like making soaps or origami keeping us busy!! She's super friendly with all the students, she's helped me with a lot of personal problems and she's been a great friend through all of this. I was diagnosed with bipolar when I was 16 and I think it was a big risk for me to stay at Austen house on my own, but she's been there for me so much!! And I couldn't thank her enough."

Well done Nicola, you deserve it!
