Here at The Student Housing Company we’re just too excited by the prospect of the fast approaching holidays, so much so we couldn’t help but look at the festivals which Europe has on offer for summer 2014.
There’s no shortage of places to go, especially as a massive number of festivals across the continent have exploded onto the scene. However, with so many to choose from it can be difficult to decide which country and which festival suits your music taste as well as your budget. To help you make that all important decision, take a look at our top three student friendly festivals in Europe:
Open’er
2nd – 5th July
Tickets: £106
Travel: £200-£500
For those who want something a bit different and enjoy exploring new cultures on a budget, this is the festival for you. Open’er is super affordable with the total for tickets and travel at roughly £300 if you book in advance, and there’s plenty of cool stuff to see.
The full line up is still TBA but there’s already an exciting range of acts set to perform; the headliners are mostly well established indie and electro acts like Foals, The Horrors, Bastille, and MGMT. In previous years, the full line up has consisted of a mix of DJs and contemporary underground artists, so this is certainly one to keep an eye on as we get closer to the date.
Open’er takes place in Gdynia, set on the north coast of Poland at a huge airport. This means festival crawlers get the chance to see various acts over seven different stages. Music starts at 4pm and continues with DJs playing right into the early hours of the morning, with the final sets expected to close at around 5am.
EXIT
10th – 13th July
Ticket: £95
Travel Costs: £500-£1000
Consistently ranking as one the best festivals in Europe, and winner of last year’s ‘Best Major Festival Award’, Exit festival is the Serbian excursion that’s become a part of the festival zeitgeist.
The line up is varied, with artists such as Damon Albarn, Disclosure, 7 seconds, Suede and Jamiroquai set to play this year. Whether it’s electro, house, rock or metal, all tastes are catered for at Exit, making it one of the best festivals for large groups with eclectic tastes, and for all people who like to turn the amps up to 11.
Exit takes place at the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad, Serbia, on the right bank of the Danube River.
Dimensions
27th– 31st August
Ticket: £140
Travel: £400-£800
Underground cool, bleepy bloopy techno, and a lineup that includes Caribou, Jon Hopkins and Darkside, Dimensions 2014 is set to be one of the freshest festivals of the summer.
At the amazing location of Fort Punta Christo in Croatia, Dimensions is an aesthetically breathtaking venue and offers music lovers a chance to party somewhere truly unique.
