7 Amazing Events in Plymouth This Summer
Summer is just a heartbeat away, and that only means one thing - an end to exams!

If you’re not clued up about the events in Plymouth this summer, then worry not. We have compiled a list of just a sample of some of the big activities taking place in this beautiful city this summer.

Ocean City Running Festival
One of the biggest events in Plymouth and indeed the South West of England, the Ocean City Running Festival is ideal for any go-getters out there.
It consists of the Plymouth Half, the Plymouth 10k, and the Plymouth 5k - so no matter what your physical ability, you can definitely get involved!
This year it falls on 19th June, so there’s still time to sign up!
The British Firework Championships
Head to the Hoe for two evenings of amazing entertainment, including music and street performances, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display.
Six companies compete to gain the coveted title of British Firework Champions in this annual event.
This year’s event on 17th August is even more special as the winners gain the Champion of Champions accolade. The last 6 years’ winners will compete in an explosive battle to see who comes up as the cream of the crop!
Treasury Gin Tasting
If you like gin then you’re sure to have a great day at The Treasury taking part in their Gin Tasting sessions.
You can get your fill of this refreshing bevvy every last Thursday of the month from 7pm onwards. You have to arrive at 6.30pm to ensure your place.
See if you can identify which gin is which, savour delicious nibbles and get 15% off on food with a reservation.
Tropicana 80s Night
The Terrace Cafe and Bar will play host to this tribute to the timeless music and the flamboyant fashions of the 1980s.
On 18th June head over wearing your biggest hair and flashiest clothes to bop along to tunes from Madonna, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Prince and many more 80s faves.

Big Summer Weekend
Three days of pure party over the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend at the Plymouth Hoe.
Each day serves different musical tastes and genres, so take your pick at one of the best events in Plymouth!
Thursday 2nd June is one for lovers of dance music, with a full live 30-piece orchestra and White Isle classics. Performances from Basement Jaxx and MTV and Plymouth fave DJ R3WIRE will get the party started.
Years & Years headline Friday’s event, alongside L Devine and Beka.
The Libertines and Supergrass top the bill on Saturday. On that day you can sample craft cider, sausage flavours, street food and entertainment throughout the day.
Tickets are limited to four per person due to high demand.
National Marine Park Big Blue Splash
This is one of the best free events in Plymouth this summer. The Big Blue Splash comes to Plymouth Sound on 23rd and 24th July 2022.
It’s your chance to participate in fun activities in and around the sea.
You can get taster sessions of paddleboarding, kayaking, guided snorkelling, open water swimming and even SUP yoga – the ultimate test of balance with yoga on a paddleboard.
If you prefer to stay on tierra firma, you can try rock pooling, art workshops, or use e-bikes.
You could even channel your inner Greta Thunberg and do some plogging – a combination of jogging and litter picking! A great activity to boost your well-being and help the environment at the same time!
Plymouth Armed Forces Day
On Saturday 25th June celebrate our military history by joining in with Plymouth Armed Forces Day.
It’s one of several summer events in Plymouth designed to pay homage and support to our nation’s armed services, including the raising of the Armed Forces flag outside the Plymouth Guildhall on Monday 20th June 2022.
In the morning there’ll be RAF and Allied Forces memorial services before the day kickstarts with fun activities, parades and live music - all for free!
At 11am the annual Parade of Standards will take place, which includes Veterans and Cadets marching across the Hoe Promenade.
As well as that, the Devonport Services Rugby Team will be exhibiting their skills, and entertainment will be provided by the City of Plymouth Pipe Band, Military bands, Cadets marching and a lively performance from the Rock Choir, the largest community choir in the country.
There’ll be a concert in the evening, and Veterans of the Falklands War will be given the Freedom of the City of Plymouth on the 40th anniversary of the conflict.
You can explore military vehicles, and see weapons displays and equipment. You can even test your metal on the Royal Marines obstacle course, or on the Army’s climbing wall. There might be a career in the military for you yet!
