The Ultimate Guide to Sheffield’s Tramlines Festival 2022
The academic year is drawing to a close, and with it, the end of exam season and responsibilities.
That can only mean one thing - summer’s just around the corner!
If you’re studying in Sheffield then one summer event you definitely don’t want to miss out on is the Tramlines Festival.
Here’s the lowdown on all you need to know about this cracking summer event in the home of Sheffield steel!
Who is playing? When? Where?
Sheffield Tramlines Festival is the city’s biggest live music festival. Every year big-name artists take to the stage in Hillsborough Park to play some of their biggest hits before hundreds of partygoers.
This year the festival will take place between the 22nd and the 24th July.
Some of the acts playing in the amazing lineup are:
- Friday 22nd July: Sam Fender, James and special guests Shed Seven play the main stage. Seann Walsh and Scott Bennett will be serving up some hilarity on the comedy stage.
- Saturday 23rd July: Kasabian, and The Vaccines will be the main headliners. In terms of comedy, you can check out Russell Kane, Tom Ward, and Karen Bayley.
- On Sunday 24th July you can bop along to British legends Madness, as well as The Wombats, and special guests The Coral. On the comedy stage, you’ll see Jason Manford and Ivan Brackenberry.

Tips for surviving Sheffield Tramlines
- Make sure you have your ticket printed out. You can bring it on your phone but if you have it in paper form you’ll get through the queues quicker
- Take suncream with you. Even though the British sun might not be the strongest, it still gets pretty hot in the summer and can surprise you! You can’t take glass bottles or bottles over 100ml.
- Take a power bank with you, as it might not always be easy to get hold of a plug socket to charge your phone. You’ll need your phone to keep track of where your mates are, or to take pics and videos of all the fun!
- Take a water bottle to refill. There’s plenty of water taps on-site, and you’ll need to stay hydrated in all that time spent in the sun.
- Take some photo ID to prove that you’re over 18 so that you can purchase alcohol at the bars.
- Bring some cash just in case, as there are very few ATMs on site. Most bars are contactless so there shouldn’t be a problem, but…better safe than sorry.
Music festival fashion tips
To truly enjoy a music festival, you need to come prepared. It sounds obvious, but what you wear shouldn’t be an afterthought. You need to come to Tramlines Festival dressed to impress but also in a way that’s practical and ensures that you don’t lose any belongings in the crowd.
Here’s a few things we’d bring to Tramlines if we were you…
Sunglasses – you’ll be out in the sun all day so make sure you protect your peepers! Also, they make you look super sultry in all your festival pics, what’s not to like? Make sure you get that sun cream on too!
Shorts - you want to be comfortable in any weather. If it’s hot and sunny as it hopefully will be, then shorts will keep you cool. If it gets a bit rainy, then shorts are the way forward too - nothing worse than damp, heavy trousers!
Mix the shorts with a nice top and maybe a flower crown with your hair up and out of your face. Or if you’re a little more sensitive to the sun, wear a hat to protect your head.
Wellies - if the weather takes a turn for the worse, then get yer wellies on. There’s no reason why you can’t keep enjoying the festival even if there’s a few drops of water about.
Whatever footwear you decide to wear, make sure it’s comfortable and practical. That means no high heels - you’ll be in a field all day, and it’s likely to get a little messy!
Raincoat - obviously if it’s a sunny day this one can stay at home. But if you do need it then pair it up with summer clothes and you’ll be ready for anything!
Crossbody bag - keep all your essential belongings in a bag with a strap that goes across your body. It’s so easy to lose your stuff in a big crowd, especially when there’s alcohol involved. The bag should be well secured so it doesn’t slip off and ideally will have a zip to avoid pickpocketing.
Rules
ENTRY AND CURFEW
As with every live music festival, there are a few rules that you have to stick to at Tramlines Festival. These rules exist to protect you and everyone else, so that you can have a great time while staying safe and enjoying yourself.
Every day of the festival the gates open at 12pm and the last entry onto the site is at 7.30pm.
Once you’ve entered the site, you cannot re-enter.
COVID 19
You also need to demonstrate your COVID 19 status upon entering the festival by having a copy of your COVID passport.
Festival organisers are following the Government, DCMS and Local Authority guidelines, and any COVID updates will be made accordingly.
ALCOHOL LICENSING
If you want to be served alcohol you must bring proof of ID. That’s either your current passport (not a copy), your UK drivers licence/provisional licence, or a Citizen Card.
If you look under 25 years old, you will be asked to show your ID, following the United Kingdom’s Challenge 25 policy.
