What US cities are easy to travel to from Memphis?

Located on the Mississippi River in southwest Tennessee, Memphis is within driving distance of several US cities, including Marion (12.5 miles), Bartlett (11 miles), Southaven (13 miles) and Horn Lake (18 miles). It’s also a less-than-two-hour flight away from many major cities like Atlanta, Dallas, Charlotte, and Chicago.

What are the best student activities in Memphis?

Just a short stroll from Stratum on Highland and the University of Memphis campus is the Highland Strip. With shopping, dining, entertainment, and live music all year long, it’s the ideal place to grab a bite to eat or pick up some thrifted finds. 

If it’s fresh air you’re craving, head to Tom Lee Park. Overlooking the Mississippi River, there’s 30-acres of green open park space to explore with sports courts, an outdoor gym, food and drink, and art displays. Shelby Farms Park is also just a 15-minute walk from campus and offers great coffee, trails for running and cycling, paddleboarding, and kayaking.

How big is Memphis?

At 783.6 km², Memphis is the largest city in the deep south. With a population of 650,000, it’s also the second-most populous city in the state of Tennessee. Getting around the city is relatively easy though. The Blue Line is a weekly shuttle service from campus to local stores, and the MATA bus has many different route options, including a drop off at campus.

Is Graceland close to Memphis?

Graceland is located at 3764 Elvis Presley Boulevard in the Whitehaven, Memphis neighborhood. Public transport to Graceland from Memphis city center isn’t great, so travelling by car is your best bet.

Does the Mississippi River run through Memphis?

Memphis is located right next to the Mississippi River. To get the best view of the river, check out the Big River Crossing. Open daily from 6am to 10pm, the mile-long pedestrian bridge takes in spectacular views of the river and the Memphis skyline. 

Is there onsite parking?

Yes, there is a dedicated garage at Stratum on Highland which you can use to park your car. However, there’s only a certain number of spaces, so we’d suggest that you book your space sooner rather than later. There’s also bike storage if you prefer to travel on two wheels.
