Easing you into Edinburgh

Take one road and in ten minutes you’ll find yourself in the New Town district of the city. Take another and you’ll find yourself in the Old Town. As you’d expect, each offers a very different experience. If you like your chic bars, restaurants and retail outlets, head to New Town; if you’re a fan of a quiet pint, niche galleries and cobbled streets, check out the Old Town.

Admission is free to the permanent collections of Edinburgh’s main galleries, including the huge National Museum of Scotland. Located on Chambers Street, it celebrates the latest collections several times a year with a themed night of live music, a fashion show, stalls, bars and a silent disco.

And if all this wasn’t enough, just wait until you get caught up in the hullabaloo of the annual Edinburgh Festival, when the city celebrates its status as a global hotbed of culture.
