Choosing accommodation for your time at university can be difficult, especially if you don’t know the area, or in this case, if the university is newly formed. In this blog, we’ll give you the lowdown on everything you need to know about MTU and share some great accommodation options too.

What do I need to know about Munster Technological University?

A merger between two long-standing institutes, Cork Institute of Technology and IT Tralee,  MTU is a brand new university, formed in early 2021. The campus is designed to give students access to top-class higher education without needing to live in a city to access it!

MTU is a multi-campus college, with six campuses across Corkand Kerry, accommodating more than 18,000 students from across the world. Courses on offer include business, science, and humanities, so it’s an attractive option for lots of different types of students.

The main MTU campus is based in Bishopstown in Cork, Ireland’s second-largest city. The main campus is where you’ll find lecture halls, administration and teaching buildings, but there are other learning centres in the surrounding Bishopstown area.

As the name suggests, MTU puts technology at the centre of its teaching, giving students the qualifications needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world. You’ll learn practical skills you can apply throughout your careers, and you’ll get to study in a brand new state of the art campus, it’s a win-win!

Where should I live whilst I’m studying at MTU?

We know college life isn’t just about studying, and where you live plays a huge part in enjoying your time at university. Finding the right place to live can be tricky, especially if you haven’t managed to visit the area before you move.

As the main campus is in Bishopstown, it’s a good idea to look for somewhere to live in the area, so you can easily head to your lectures. Bishopstown is a lively suburb, with plenty of bars, restaurants and amenities for you to enjoy during your time at MTU.
