So, we’ve given you all the info on what to bring, where to go, all the logistics of the big moving event… but what’s it actually going to feel like? Some of you might be just a little apprehensive as you approach the last few days before move-in, but it’s going to be okay!
The worst bit for me was pulling up in the car, looking at this great big building in a city I didn’t know, with people I didn’t know. Equally scary was knowing I was about to be cruelly abandoned by my parents here! But plaster a smile on your face and get out of the car, because once you’ve done that the worst bit is over. Phew.
Head straight for someone in a yellow t-shirt (that’s us!) as we’re an exceptionally friendly bunch, and we’ll let you know exactly what to do next. When you’re happy with where you’re off to, grab your stuff and head on up.
At this point it gets exciting, you can try out all of our state of the art amenities in your room and kitchen (plus your parents can exclaim that student accommodation wasn’t like this in their day). The style and panache doesn’t finish in your flat you know, have a mosey around the common room and courtyards too, so you can get to know your new home.
Once you’re settled in I think we all know it’s time to say goodbye to the folks (lovely as they are, they tend to be kind of embarrassing in these kinds of situations). Prepare for this moment to pull on the heartstrings a bit, no matter how much you say you don’t care, we know you do. Give them a quick hug and our advice is not to stay in your room but to head straight into the kitchen to make some new friends.
On that first day, they may seem like strange people with even stranger accents but we know from experience the best part of staying in halls, is the variety of people you will meet. We have lots of exciting things going on during Freshers’ Week throughout each of our sites, so why not go through your Freshers’ stuff with each other and plan a few things you really want to do.
It’s going to be a long day, you’ll probably feel every emotion going, and wonder why you’ve decided to put yourself through this! But we know it’s going to be one of the best years of your life so stick with it, relax and keep busy, you’ll feel at home in no time. If you’ve got any questions, or just want to see a particularly smiley face then pop down and visit your onsite staff team.
Safe journey and we can’t wait to meet you.
