Moving into new accommodation is like time travel. Seriously. It gets you thinking about your past, your future, and there’s always a little bit of uncertainty about your destination.
Now unlike time travel, your new home is real. But your journey to and from here is still going to be a fun adventure. Here’s what to do to get started:
The Boring Stuff
There are some nitty gritty details you’ll want to be on top of before you move into your new home.
Make sure you’ve:
- Accepted your offers
- Paid your first instalment of rent
- Set up recurring payments
- Read through all of the accommodation documents
The Fun Stuff
Arrive and get your keys
Each residence has an official arrival day. For us, you can find out the moving in dates for each residence over on the FAQs.
If you can’t find the info call the residence or get in touch with your university.
It’s a good idea to note down this info when you have it, because you’ve got a lot to remember. Then when it comes to the day, you can pick up your keys and the staff should help you to move in.
Bring your stuff
It’s a tough question. And one that many new denizens have done a cracking job of answering.
In general, you want:
- Laptop
- Alarm clock
- Food
- Bedding
- Crockery and cutlery
- Tea-towels
- Toiletries
- Towels
And any other essential things you might crave. Like a Netflix subscription.
Get to know the area
J.R Tolkien, the Lord of The Rings guy, said “Not all those who wander are lost”.
And it’s in this spirit you should get to know your new area. Because once you’ve moved in it’s time to buddy up with some new friends and explore your new home.
This could simply mean you say hello to a few people down the hall, or you could head out to the city. How do you choose what to do?
