Have You Chosen Your University Yet?

If you are currently in the final year of your A-Levels and you have decided to go to university in September 2014, it is likely that your Christmas holiday has been spent thinking long and hard about which university is the right place for you.

This is no small decision, and is understandably massively stressful to most – and how can you possibly be expected to make a well-thought-out choice when you have a pile of coursework hanging over your head, too? It’s all madness.

Luckily for you, here at The Student Housing Company many of us have been through this undeniably tricky process ourselves, and have some handy tips to get those cogs whirring ahead of the looming UCAS deadline on January 15th.

Which Undergraduate Course Should I Pick?

One monumentally tough decision, unless you are one of the blessed few who knows exactly what their dream career is and the skills they need to make the magic happen, is choosing a course to study for the next three years.

Don’t panic! It’s really not as scary as the ominous “three year” bomb makes it sound. If you discover you simply cannot stand your course,  most institutions will let you swap within the first month. Of course, this isn’t a Get out of Jail Free card, so picking which course to take should be thought through carefully, with huge numbers of pros and cons lists made for good measure.

Where Should I Study?

When you are hurtling towards the end of your school career, saying farewell to your friends often comes with it. The temptation for many may be to choose a city to study in based on where your friends are going. This is all well and good, but the last thing you and your friends want to do is hinder each other’s opportunities to make new friends at the start of a new and exciting time in your life.

There are so many social and extra-curricular activities to get thoroughly stuck into while at university, and living in a Student Housing Company shared flat will mean you have even more mates just down the hall from you. University is where you master that all important work-life balance – be ready to hear this phrase a lot for the rest of your working life. You’ll be living with friends, away from home for the first time, so why shouldn’t you enjoy this magical time in your life to the maximum? And, usually by your January exams in second year, you’ll be a pro at working hard and playing hard with equal ferocity.
