2022 Bournemouth Summer Events You Shouldn't Miss

The summer holidays are fast approaching and with them a plethora of exciting things to do.

Once exam season is over, you’ll be free to make the most of the most fun activities with your friends and recharge your batteries.

Here’s a roundup of our most anticipated Bournemouth summer events this year!

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

This year marks an astounding 70 years of HM the Queen on the British throne, making her the longest-reigning British monarch of all time!

What better way to celebrate than to head down to East Overcliff on 2nd June to see the beacon being lit?

Near the Jon Egging Memorial, you can watch the lighting ceremony at 9.45 pm which will be followed by fireworks in the bay at 10 pm.

The following day there’ll be a selection of royal-themed movies on the Big Screen all day. On Saturday 4th June they’ll broadcast the Jubilee Concert from London on the same Big Screen.

Bournemouth Pride

The ‘Bourne Free’ annual LGBTQ+ summer festival returns this year in Meyrick Park on the 8th and 9th of July.

It’s an event celebrating diversity in all its forms and is full of joy, fun, and colour.

This year’s theme is ‘Bourne Free Goes Green’, and the festival will focus on being more eco-friendly. There’ll be a parade, trade stands, and lots of good vibes!

Fireworks Festival

During the summer holidays, one of the regular Bournemouth summer events is the weekly Friday night fireworks display.

The dazzling display lights up the sky over the waters of Bournemouth Seafront every Friday in August at 10 pm.

There’s also live music, street entertainment, and some rides on hand. You won’t want to miss these summer fireworks, as fabulous as they are!

Steps What the Future Holds Tour

Fans of the iconic pop band Steps will be buzzed to hear that they are back once again, continuing with their What the Future Holds Tour.

They’ll be at LOCATION on 2nd June to regale fans with a stream of their legendary pop classic hits including Deeper Shade of Blue, One for Sorrow, and Tragedy.

You can also bop along to some of their newer tracks from their 2021 What the Future Holds hit album.

Bournemouth Reggae Weekender

This annual event is returning to King’s Park to bring together the community to enjoy some reggae beats in a positive, chilled atmosphere.

Hosted by non-profit community organisation AFRO*DISIAC Live Radio,  not only can you enjoy the music but you can also feel good knowing that you’re supporting local businesses and charities with the proceeds from your entry ticket.

You’ll see a traditional food offering by Buddhist monks, Muay Thai boxing, a Ladyboy show, Thai food and produce stalls, and you can even get a traditional Thai massage.

Bournemouth Air Festival

If you’re into all things military-related, then you’ll love this. The Bournemouth Air Festival descends upon the city’s seafront for four days in a celebration of Britain’s armed forces.

There will be live music entertainment and ticketed rides, and demonstrations of military prowess on land, at sea, and in the skies.

The Pier to Pier Swim

On Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th July you can do your bit to support the lives of those living with heart and circulatory conditions.  Do so by participating in The Pier to Pier Swim in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

Set to be the biggest event in its 60-year history, it’s one of Europe’s biggest charity swimming events. Here you can test your stamina and willpower by swimming 1.4 miles between Bournemouth and Boscombe Piers.

All for a great cause!

Summer Live 2022

Don’t miss out on this amazing explosion of live entertainment, stalls, and local artists in Bournemouth Square every day throughout July and August.

Make the most of the hazy summer days by soaking up the sun in the outdoor ‘Garden Bar’ and having a nibble in ‘The Snack Shack’.

Just make sure you bring some sun cream!

With so many fun activities to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice this summer in Bournemouth. Just as well, then, that living nearby in your Yugo student accommodation at Bailey Point or Belaton House, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to pack it all into one summer of adventures!
