Studying Abroad in Dublin for Canadian Students
Dublin is the world-famous capital of the Republic of Ireland and a great European city to study for people from Canada. As well as the common language and close links to the whole of Europe, Dublin is an endlessly fascinating capital, rich in myth, history and hospitality. And of course, Canadians will recognise that similar culture of warmth and friendliness.
Travelling to Dublin From Canada
Certain specific rules apply to people travelling from Canada to Ireland. The Irish government has a Passenger Locator Form on their website which you must fill in before you arrive. You must also provide a negative or ‘not detected’ PCR Covid-19 RT-PCR test carried out no more than 72 hours before your arrival which you’ll need to show before boarding the airplane or ferry from the country you are travelling from, and then again once you arrive in Ireland to the immigration officers.
As Canada is currently classed as a designated state, you’ll need to pre-book and pre-pay for a place in a designated facility for mandatory hotel quarantine. You can arrange this through the Irish government’s mandatory quarantine portal and be sure to plan in advance for this 14-day stay as you won’t be able to go out. You may leave after 10 days if you get a negative RT-PCR test. But make sure to keep checking the Irish government’s website in case any of this information changes.
Make the Most of Dublin
Once you’re out of quarantine you’ll find plenty of amazing things to do. There are tons of must-visit cultural hotspots, such as The National Gallery of Ireland. This is the country’s central storehouse for amazing works of art, where you’ll find renowned masterpieces by great names including Vermeer, Goya, Caravaggio, and Velazquez. It’s free to enter, and alongside the permanent collection there are circulating exhibitions, talks and activities every month.
Then there’s EPIC, the Irish Emigration Museum, which tells the story of brave wanderers who travelled the world, not only to the Americas but to the Antipodes and Russia. Packed with stories, the interactive displays, exhibitions and archives cover the history of Irish culture around the world, from pop music to politics and tragedy to charm.

And let’s not forget what Ireland is famous for. Fans of Ireland’s signature beer should visit the Guinness Brewery and Museum to see where and how the magic is made. Here’s where you can taste decades of history and craft and their expert tour guides will make it a trip to remember.
On a similar note, the reopening of bars and pubs is currently being hotly debated in the Irish parliament. At the moment, it seems like most will be open for outside drinking from 7 June 2021 and indoors from 5 July. But you can still enjoy Dublin’s party atmosphere as it’s possible to have drinks delivered to your home, plus there are a number of outdoor spaces that allow drinking in moderation.
