Raleigh is the state capital of NC and has been nicknamed the “City of Oaks” for its sheer number of majestic oak trees which line the streets. Raleigh is home to 10 traditional universities and colleges, as well as numerous satellite campuses and for-profit institutions of higher education, making it an area unusually rich in educational opportunities. Thus, Raleigh is part of the Research Triangle area, together with Durham and Chapel Hill. Raleigh is the only state capital to have been planned and established by a state as the seat of state government, and it is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country.
