Didn't find the info you were looking for about our student accommodations in Germany? Maybe you can find the answer here in our frequently asked questions.

Booking Your Apartment

How long does a viewing take?

Viewing our space in person usually takes about 15 to 30 minutes. We also offer virtual tours if you can't visit us! However, in both cases, we would like to ask you to make an appointment in advance.

Can I choose who my flatmates will be?

Some of our Spaces offer apartments where you can live with your friends. In this case, each of you will rent one bedroom in the apartment. All you need to do is choose the same apartment number during the booking process on our website. Please note, this is subject to availability – so it’s best to book early to secure your shared flat.

If you decide to book a room in a shared flat, with more than one occupant, instead of a single apartment, our booking tool will show you which beds are already occupied by which people.

If I don’t get on with my new flatmates can I change rooms?

We want to make sure that you love living with us. Sometimes it takes a little while to adjust and get used to living with your flatmates. But if you don’t get along with your new flatmates, it may be possible to change apartments subject to availability.

What is rental deposit insurance?

This is an alternative to a classic deposit payment by bank transfer. A rental deposit insurance is the promise of a bank or insurance company to cover the arising obligations. For this, instead of paying the entire deposit amount, you must pay a certain fee (usually an annual contribution) to your bank or insurance company to obtain the rental deposit certificate, which you must submit to your landlord.

In the event of a payment claim, this amount must then be paid to the beneficiary.

The rental deposit insurance must be issued by a German bank or insurance company. For more information, please contact the team at your Yugo Space.

Do I need to be a full-time student to book an apartment?

Usually, we only accept full-time students, but exceptions are occasionally possible. Get in touch with the team of the Yugo Space you are interested in to discuss your options further.

Is there an age limit for booking?

To live with us during your studies, you must be 18 or older. With the written consent of your parents/legal guardian, you can also rent a room under the age of 18.

If you are under the age of majority, please contact the team of your Yugo Space directly for more information.

Student Living

Can I personalize my room?

Yes, as long as you restore your apartment to its original condition by the time you check out. Otherwise, you will have to pay for the material damage or restoration to the original condition.

Where can I smoke?

Smoking is not allowed inside our spaces. However, you are free to smoke outside.

Can I put my own fridge in my room?

Our apartments are all equipped with fridges. Additional fridges are only allowed in exceptional cases and after consultation with our team - for example, if they are used to store prescription medication.

Can I bring a pet?

We love animals, but for the welfare of the animals and to be considerate of other residents with, for example, allergies, we do not allow animals in our buildings.

Can I have friends and family to stay?

You are welcome to have visitors in your apartment or use our common rooms together with them.

Since our apartments are usually designed for single use, friends and family should stay for a maximum of 2 or 3 nights.

If you live in a shared flat, please make sure to inform your flatmates about your visitors in advance.

Are there any social events for residents?

We host social and cultural events all around the year; from spiritual and cultural get-togethers to fitness events, trips, and much more. Our events are usually free of charge for you.

Are the common rooms always open?

Some of our Spaces allow you to pre-book the common rooms they offer, but most are accessible 24 hours a day unless alternative opening hours are announced in advance.

What happens if something in my apartment breaks or doesn’t work?

Our friendly maintenance team is always on hand if something breaks or isn't working in your apartment. Just inform our team on-site and we will take care of it.

Accommodation Amenities

Is the internet included?

Yes, we offer high-speed broadband and Wi-Fi as standard in all apartments, and it’s also available in our common rooms.

What appliances are included in my flat when I arrive?

The equipment included in your apartment varies, depending on the type of apartment and Yugo space you live in. Check out our Spaces pages for more information or contact our local teams.

Where do I do my laundry?

We have laundry facilities in our spaces that are always accessible to you while you are staying with us. Please note that there may be additional charges for laundry, which vary depending on the wash cycle and Yugo Space.

What equipment is in the gym?

Spaces with a fitness room offer free weights and/or equipment for strength training, cardiovascular equipment, and yoga mats. Some of our spaces also offer fitness suites with specialized equipment, dance/yoga studios, or outdoor gyms!

Can I have parcels delivered to my space?

Our team will be happy to accept your packages and shipments during office hours so that you never miss a delivery. Please always include your apartment number in the delivery address for a quick and easy assignment of the packages.

Do we get a cleaner?

No, you are responsible for cleaning your apartment.

The common rooms are being cleaned regularly, but we would like to ask you to leave the rooms clean and tidy, nevertheless.

How secure is the bike storage?

Most of our bike storage is located inside our secure buildings, so only tenants have access. However, in some Spaces, the bike storage is outside on the premises. In all cases, we recommend a strong bike lock for extra security.

Are there parking spaces for tenants?

Some of our Spaces have parking spaces or an underground garage. Subject to availability, you can book this in addition to your apartment. Rental prices vary depending on the type of parking space and Yugo Space.

Contact the team of your Yugo Space for more information. Since the parking spaces are limited, it is worth requesting one early.

Moving Day

At what time can I check in on the move-in day?

Move-ins are possible during our opening hours, which vary depending on the Yugo Space. To make sure that you can move in during your preferred time, please contact our on-site team before planning your move and potentially booking flights or train tickets.

To avoid waiting times on the move-in day, please arrange a move-in appointment in advance - this can be done easily via our student portal or directly with our on-site team.

Can I move in before my contract starts?

In case your apartment is available earlier, it's possible to move in before the official start of the contract (for a daily fee). If you would like to move in earlier, please contact the team of your Yugo Space, we will be happy to check if an earlier move-in is possible.

Is it okay to arrive out of hours on the day I move in?

If you would like to move in outside of our opening hours on the move-in day, please contact the team of your Yugo Space to check if and how we can offer you a check-in in your individual case.

What documents do I need to check in?

Before you move in, make sure that you uploaded all the required documents to the Student Portal and that you have paid your deposit or submitted your rental deposit insurance certificate. Once all this is done, you are ready to move in.

To make sure that everything goes smoothly on the move-in day, please bring your passport/ID Card and a bank statement as proof of the deposit payment (a screenshot from your banking app is fine too) or the original of your rental deposit insurance certificate with you to your move-in appointment.

Where can I park when I’m unpacking?

As your move-in date approaches, we'll reach out to you to let you know where you can park nearby the Space to unload your belongings.

Rent & Tenancy Agreement

How do I pay rent?

Rent is paid monthly and in advance, as stated in the rental agreement that you signed when you made your booking. To keep things simple, the full rent must be paid monthly in advance in 12 equal installments. The exact monthly rental price can also be found in your contract and the Student Portal.

If preferred, you can also pay the full rent for your entire rental period in one payment at the beginning of your rental period.

You can easily pay your rent directly through our student portal - either by credit card or by setting up a SEPA (direct debit).

Please note that the deposit must be transferred to a separate account. You will receive our bank details for the deposit payment as soon as your booking has been confirmed.

Can I pay rent via bank transfer too?

Paying the rent by bank transfer is possible in exceptional cases. If you need to pay via bank transfer, please contact the team at your Yugo Space for more information.

Are there any additional costs I have to pay?

There is a one-off, non-refundable fee of 150€ for administration costs associated with processing your booking with us.

Can I sublet my apartment?

According to your contract, subleases aren't allowed. Exceptions can be discussed with the team of your Yugo Space on-site.

Can I move out earlier?

Of course, you are welcome to move out earlier, but you are bound to all obligations of your contract until your official contract end date. This also includes the rent payments.

Early termination of your lease is possible with a suitable new tenant who is also a student and who will take over your apartment for at least the rest of your contract period. If you would like to take advantage of this option, please contact your local Yugo Space team.

Safety & Security

Is there always a staff member available on-site?

During our office hours, which can vary from Space to Space, there is always at least one employee on-site. If the opening hours change, we will always inform you in time.

In case of an emergency, you can also reach us by phone outside our opening hours. You will receive all information on how to deal with emergencies and emergency numbers from us when you move in.

How safe is the accommodation?

Most entrances to our buildings are access-restricted and video-monitored 24 hours a day. All apartment doors are lockable.

Is contents insurance included?

No, your lease does not include contents insurance. According to your lease agreement, you are required to procure your own homeowner's insurance to protect your belongings during your time with us.

Is the building regularly inspected for fire safety?

The safety of our students is very important to us. We regularly conduct smoke detector tests and inspections of our fire safety measures in all our Spaces.

International Students

Can I stay over the summer holidays?

You can live in your apartment for the entire period of your lease, furthermore, you can extend your contract early for the next academic year - you will get all information from our team on-site.

However, we only offer short-term rentals during the summer on a case-by-case basis, subject to availability.

What do I do if I’ve booked an apartment, but can’t get a visa?

Please contact our team. Our staff will then check whether your contract with us can be canceled, or the rental period can be postponed in your case.

Do need to bring my own bedding and towels?

Yes. We don't provide bedding or towels as standard. However, in some of our Spaces, you can book different additional packages (Bedding Pack, Towel Pack, Kitchen Pack).

Can I be picked up from the airport/train station?

Unfortunately, we don't offer transfers for residents. You have to organize your arrival/departure to and from the Yugo Space. However, all our spaces are well connected to public transportation. If you need help choosing the best route, our on-site teams will be happy to help you plan it.
